New Things on the Virtual Horizon
ZOMG!!!
Hullo Folks,
Well yes it is a miracle, I am finally posting in the blog. With the holidays nearing their end and the new year approaching fast, its time for me to buckle down and get to work on the newest projects on my list. As I mentioned in the show for the last several weeks, the K-Grid and the future of kids in the virtual world has peeked my interest. Since the fund raiser for the show is now over and my work schedule most likely reaching some normalcy, I can begin to put some more time into working on my project.
What are Yuki's plans?
Well I have taken a huge interest in the realXtend viewer that works along with the opensim protocol. To spare you all my usual onslaught of technical mumbo-jumbo, I will keep the explanation simple. Using the k-grid server that Sacha is running, I am hoping to create a showcase for the community to explore using the realXtend viewer. This should show just what the future is capable of. Now I am not the most talented 3D artist, in fact the farthest thing from it, but my hopes are to show what is capable by moving to this technology that is provided to us free of charge to use.
If I can inspire others that are capable to join up and insert their talent, and they in turn inspire others to do the same, then we can build a world fit for the virtual kid community to inhabit away from the tyranny of Linden Labs and those who shun us in the SL community.
While this project will be be slow going, I will promise to keep the community updated as I progress. I hope to showcase the availability of custom avatar mesh, texture, and animation creation using the new avatar server system, the creation and importation of 3D models into realXtend using the Ogre3D import tools built into the viewer, and the Ogre3D particle and scripting system.
What form will I bring this to you in?
Well... Yuki has gone a little Winnie the Pooh crazy lately. I thought it might be the prefect layout to introduce a new kid world, by bringing the 100 "Aker" wood to life from one of our most cherished childhood stories. So even if you are not a Winnie the Pooh fan, I hope you will still follow along with this project just to see what the future has in store for us all.
What's next?
Well just stayed tuned to the blog and the show. I am going to provide pictures, videos, and tutorials to the things I am discovering as I, myself, learn this technology as well as keep the community updated regularly on the weekly MNK Radio Show. So I hope you all stick it out with me and support us all in this next step in our virtual community.
